Thank you for your interest in requesting information on my hunting camps.

My three camps are of wooden construction and conform to Newfoundland Tourism specification. Each camp has indoor toilet and shower facilities, two bedrooms with two single beds in each room, a large dining room and kitchen. Guide quarters are separate from dining room and guest rooms. Each camp is equipped to accommodate four hunters per week, four guides and a full time cook. Each hunter has his own guide. Hunting is mostly done by walk in or glassing from high country, the terrain is fair to good. I have all terrain vehicles at Trophy Lake and High Pond to transport meat back to camp. (This is the responsibility of the Guides).

The three hunting Camps are located in Area #3, on the Northern Peninsula. One at St. Paul's Big Pond, located on and one-half miles from Gros Morne National Park boundary, this is a thirty five mile flight from Deer Lake Airport. The other two camps are located in the Long Range Mountains at Trophy Lake and High Pond. Both are sixty air miles from Deer Lake Airport.

I have two way radios at my three camps which allow for daily contact to plane base for notification of meat pick-up, emergencies, etc. Also cell phones and satellite phones can be used all all three locations.

I have all registered guides and some of the best you will find anywhere in Newfoundland. Their main source of income is guiding, and their greatest pleasure is providing my guests with a happy and memorable hunting trip. They work hard to see that all guest get their game and enjoy their stay at the camp.

I suggest all hunters bring high caliber rifles with scope, such as a 30-06, 308, or 207 sighted for 150-200 yards. Also warm clothing, water proof clothing, water proof boots (at least twelve inches high), warm sleeping bags, cameras, and binoculars are also suggested. Due to brush country and often damp rainy weather; for the hunters benefit I would suggest a flip scope or under open sights.

My Camps produced a ninety percent kill in moose and a one hundred percent kill in caribou in the past seasons.

A deposit of $500.00 is required from each hunter when reservations are confirmed. I will refund reservation deposits, if notified of cancellation on or before June 1st. Once license has been issued by the Department of Tourism, Wildlife Division, there will be no refund on license fees.

Transportation:

You may fly from Montreal or Halifax into Deer Lake airport or drive to North Sydney and take the ferry to Port aux Basques. Toll free number (US) 1-800-341-7981. There is now a toll free number within Canada. Port aux Basques is a 175 mile drive to Deer Lake. If you decide to drive I will meet you at the Airport upon arrival, if notified in advanced. Deer Lake Motel is just five minutes away from the Airport where you will fly into the Hunting Camp. Not included in over-all camp fees would be overnight hotel accommodations (approx. $60-$80) an your personal tip for hunting guide (min. $100).

I would like for all hunters to be at Deer Lake Saturday evening. Hunters are flown into camp on Sunday and flown out the following Sunday, weather permitting.

All phone calls regarding information and reservations are welcome. If you decide to take your hunting trip at my camps, rest assured of a happy one. Choosing the right outfitter is very important and sometimes very difficult.
